What is a church? In Maryville today, some would answer that church is "a place where good people go," or the more skeptical might even state that church is a place "where those hypocrites go on Sunday." At FBC Maryville, we answer the question a bit differently.
A church is not a building, but a collection of people who worship the living God. FBC Maryville is made up of many broken people who come together to acknowledge that there is only One who has ever been perfect. We, the broken, know that we can be made better through our faith in that One. Perhaps the Apostle Paul, in the book of Romans, said it best: All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (3:23), but righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ (3:22).
Yes, we at FBC do try to be good and to do good. And yes, we know we are hypocritical; in our hearts, we know that we are not totally good. But we also know that, together with other Christians, we can make the world a better place. And together we know that we can bring a smile to God's face. That is what a church should do.
If you are new to Maryville, or if you want to know more about the God who can make you whole, we hope you will visit with us. If you want to bring a smile to God's face, please come join us.
Welcome.
