KELLY FERGUSON
MINISTRY ASSISTANT
Kelly Ferguson, originally from Dayton, Ohio, is a 1985 graduate of Dayton Christian School. She then attended college at Cumberland College (now University of the Cumberlands) in Williamsburg, KY, where she met the love of her life, Clayton Ferguson Jr., on the very first day. They married two years later, and she graduated in 1989 with a Bachelors Degree in English and a minor in Secretarial Practice. In December of 1991, they were blessed with a daughter, and six months later, they moved to Maryville, TN, where her husband was born and raised. Unfortunately, in December of 1997, Clayton was diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer, and he died in November of 1999.
Kelly has served God in ministry most of her adult life. She started out helping her husband as a pastor’s wife. Then she served part-time as a church secretary at Forest Hill Baptist Church in Maryville for twelve years before hiring on here as a full-time ministry assistant in 2009. In her role here, Kelly assists our pastors with their ministries and serves the congregation and the public through the church office. She connects the congregation to each other and the community through our online directory, prayerline email, website, social media, service slides, and our Link newsletters. She discovered her God-given gift for writing while writing devotions for our prayerline, and in October 2019, she published Love Lifted Me, a devotional book developed while processing her grief and depression. Gleaning from that experience and therapy, she felt God’s leadership to begin a grief support group which she led at FBCM for five years.
Kelly is quiet, always thinking, and constantly analyzing. She may appear shy when you first meet her, but when she finally contributes to the conversation, you’ll realize she’s funny, smart, and has been listening and learning from you the entire time. She is a blessing to have here at FBCM.
