Bill and Gary’s sermons on Sunday, Sept. 20, will be about “Loving Rightly” which is about the virtue of showing love to our neighbors. We invite you and your family to stay after church, eat free pizza together in the FLC Lobby, and then put this Christian love into practice in a variety of ways. You can:

1. Show love to those facing natural disasters by filling buckets with the essential supplies needed to clean up their property after events like tornados, hurricanes, or floods.

2. Show love to our neighborhood by walking around the streets surrounding the church and picking up any trash that we see.

3. Show love to children entering foster care by assembling welcome packets that the Isaiah 117 House can give them to hopefully make their transition into the system easier and more comfortable.

4. Show love to the hungry by building and installing a blessing box in our parking lot to collect donations of shelf-stable food and hygiene products for anyone in need to pick up for free.

We hope you’ll stay and participate. It will be fun and a blessing to see people from both services and of all generations come together to make a real difference in the name of Jesus.  If you do decide to join us, it would be helpful if you would email us at hello@fbcmaryville.org so we know how much pizza to buy. Please feel free to wear or bring clothes that you can work in.

Beginning Wednesday the 23rd, the group will be starting Wendell Berry's book Jayber Crow. So this is a great time for you to become a part of this group and invite other men in the community to join the group as well. You will need to have the book at the first meeting, and you might want to buy the book as soon as possible as there seems to be a limited supply available. You won’t need to have anything read when you get there. It might be good, however, to do some internet research on Wendell Berry. Dan Hix, a Wendell Berry expert, will join us for this study and share his insights into the author and his book. For more information, please contact Randy Hurst.

Caregiver Cafe’ is a support group for those in our community who are caregivers—those who take care of family members and friends who suffer from chronic and terminal illnesses. The group meets on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month from 9-11AM in the Snack Room of the Family Life Center. Participants will receive education, support, and companionship from the group, its leaders, and special guests. Due to the nature of this group, attendees should feel free to come and go as needed.

We are excited to tell you about a wonderful music class that is going to be available to families at First Baptist starting this fall. “God’s Children Sing” is an amazing curriculum created by Musikgarten that helps foster the development of toddler and preschoolers while also developing foundational musical abilities. It is designed for a parent or caregiver to come with a child to each class. They will sing, chant, dance, listen, play musical instruments like rhythm sticks, jingles, and drums, all while learning important spiritual truths within an environment especially designed for toddlers and preschoolers. It is a joyful and fun time for parents and kids to spend together. 

The classes, led by Mark Hussung, start on October 14th, and last for half an hour. They are for toddlers and preschoolers who are 18 months to 5 years old as of 8/15/26 and their parents and caretakers. We invite you to preview the group with your child(ren) on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 5:30pm in the FLC Game Room (across from the Welcome Desk and the Snack Room). The classes will be free, but Mark requests that you purchase the family at-home materials for $20 for the first 10-week term. Class size is limited, and spots will be offered to parents from the FBC Nursery School starting October 1. This year we retreat into the woods of Camp Tipton to celebrate, fellowship, eat, and play together! We will have games, s’mores, food, music, a fire or two, and more! We would love it if you would come and bring a friend to hang out with us.
